The Valley of Hout Bay hosts an informative Library and Museum and boasts many spectacular mountain walks. The soft, white, sandy beach lies below a two-armed mountain range - on the east Chapmans Peak and on the west the Karbonkelberg, which ends in a peak called Sentinel. Sentinel stands guard over the working fishing harbour and the yacht basin. These are both within a short distance from the flat.
